| The goal is to prevent and relieve suffering and to improve
quality of life for people facing serious, complex illness. Dietary restrictions
are not relevant for the individual with terminal illness. The joy of eating
and maintaining quality of life as much as possible is emphasized here.
The concern for quantity or nutrient content is not a priority. Enteral
or parenteral feedings are resorted to only if required and consented to
by the individual concerned and members who are looking after the individual
(care givers). |

| What it also aims at is relief from suffering, treatment
of pain and other distressing symptoms, psychological and spiritual care.
They should be provided a support system to help the individual live as
actively as possible, as well a support system to sustain and rehabilitate
the individual's family. |
