Cancer Treatment Side Effects - Physiological |
The varying options of treating cancer through surgery, chemotherapy,
radiation therapy, hormone & immuno therapy are all very powerful. Although
they target the fast growing cancer cells, they do tend to kill a large
number of healthy cells too. The damage to the healthy cells is what produces
the debilitating side effects that eventually affects the patient’s
ability to eat normal meals.
How the patient’s body responds to the treatment cycles depends greatly
on the type, location and stage of cancer, as well as on the strength of
the patient to begin with. Some people may experience minor side effects,
whereas for some these side effects can become life threatening.
The patient, and their caregivers need to understand the crucial role that
diet and nutrition can play in alleviating these side effects. |
