Food allergies are abnormal reactions to foods that are commonly consumed by the population. This type of reaction is triggered by the body’s own immune system. The allergic response is generally an exaggerated one and the triggers are common foods like eggs, peanuts, milk, dairy etc., which are otherwise not harmful.
It is projected that about 12 million Americans including approx. 2.2 million children suffer from food allergies, of which more that 4 million suffer from peanut/tree nuts allergy. According to Duke University, close to half of the 150 annual deaths caused from allergic reactions in the US, are caused by peanut allergy.
Imagine a treatment being conjured by a research team to treat peanut allergy in children so that the kids can eat foods without being intimidated by the ingredients present in the cake or ice-cream offered in the school kitchen or by a friend.
