Ulcer & Gastritis patients should -
- Eat small amounts of food but at fixed intervals to regulate acid secretion
- Eat only fresh foods from all food groups and chew thoroughly
- Have a diet rich in soluble fiber as it aids in healing
- Have dinner at least 2-3 hours before going to bed
- Select low fat or fat free dairy foods where ever possible, as this helps in controlling the acid production in the stomach but try and avoid milk as initially it acts as a buffer, but subsequently triggers an attack and makes the condition worse
- Avoid spicy and sodium rich foods and foods that may cause gas.
- Avoid alcohol, caffeinated products, citrus juices, and tomatoes, all and spices as they all increase acid secretion and irritate the lining of the stomach.
- Avoid smoking, aspirin based medicines and use of alcohol as they are gastric irritants
- Exercise regularly and manage weight.
- Be positive, happy and joyful.
