The Harvard study on mid life weight gain in women
A group of Harvard researchers at Brigham & Women's Hospital conducted a study to determine the level of physical activity needed during midlife to avoid gaining weight, as women age.
Researchers followed more than 34,000 healthy US women (average age at the beginning of the study was 54 years) for 13 years. Data was analyzed to study the relationship between level of physical activity & weight change over time. They were divided into groups based on the level of physical activity.
The most active group was of women who performed moderate intensity exercise for 420 minutes or more per week (60 minutes per day). The second group engaged in at least 150 minutes but less than 420 minutes per week. The least active group engaged in less than 150 minutes per week.
