Dr Mozaffarian also felt that this proposed approach is a downstream or poly pill approach. i.e using drugs to block specific pathways in the body to counter a health problem instead of an upstream approach by helping large number of people choose healthy eating and life styles and lower their CVD risks.
Where as Dr Miller (University of Maryland, Baltimore) felt that it was very like increasing fluoridation of contaminated drinking water. He felt that this approach more or less sanctions huge portions of fatty food instead of moderating portion control, a very lop sided approach.
Dr Roger Blumenthal (Johns Hopkins University Medical Center, Baltimore) on his part felt that the menu must list the total calories, saturated- and trans-fat content of each food item, and suggest portion sizes for every age group along with average recommended intake for adults and teenagers. He felt that this way people would eventually begin to think about the ill effect. McDonalds on their part could hand out good pedometers and encourage people to walk most days of the week at least around 10 000-plus steps a day.
What do you think?
What approach should one take to counter unhealthy eating to reduce CVD risks?
Should it be statins or portion control?
