Each strand of hair contains water 12-15% of water, 3% lipids, minerals and melanin (the natural colour of the hair). Keratin (protein) is its main constituent and is formed by the combination of 18 amino acids.
Each strand of hair has a life cycle. It grows, falls and then regrows. But this cycle of regrowth slows down during the aging process and other stresses.
Essential tips for healthy hair
- Know your hair type - hair usually falls into one of four categories: normal, oily, dry and combination. If you know your hair type you will be able to choose products and treatments which are best suited to your hair type.
- Hair care routine - it’s an absolute must to wash your hair frequently with a good shampoo followed by a suitable conditioner. Wet hair should be allowed to dry naturally. Overuse of heating machines should be avoided to prevent damage to hair.
- Protect your hair - Hair should be protected from the harsh rays of the mid afternoon sun. Massaging the hair with a good oil will not only nourish and condition the hair but also help in improving blood circulation to the scalp. Tight hairstyles should be avoided to prevent breakages.
- Nourishing diet - a diet which has excellent quality protein, adequate omega 3 fatty acids, vitamin E, B complex vitamins and minerals like, zinc, selenium and calcium nourish the hair making it strong, healthy and lustrous.
